I am grateful to the town citizens for allowing me to be mayor of Lake Lure for a decaded. Lake Lure is my home, a wonderful community and certainly a place worth protecting.  As I have said many times before, the mayor, council, manager and other town employees don’t run the town, we all do.  I enjoyed working with the town council, the town employees and most of all the citizens of Lake Lure.  I have always taken time to listen to the citizens of Lake Lure and promise to continue to listen to you and relay your wants, wishes and concerns to the council and manager.  I look forward to continuing my work with the town and hopefully having a role in keeping Lake Lure a great place to live.

My main concerns continue to include the protection of our natural and historical resources, controlled growth, safe highways, lake safety and fiscal responsibility.   It’s no secret that I have been active with the Zoning and Planning Board in its efforts to properly manage our town’s growth.  We all know our town is growing faster now than at any other time in its history. As our town grows, I believe we should not allow commercial operations in residential districts but rather keep them in commercial hubs as recommended by the town’s Land Use Plan.  As a parent of two beautiful children, I want our town and, more particularly, our lake and highways to be safe. I will, of course, continue my efforts to ensure the town is as frugal as possible with its resources and do all humanly possible to keep our taxes as low as possible.

Yours very truly,

Jim Proctor
